After 18 months of campaigning and 900 years of history, Cardigan Castle came into public ownership on Monday, April 14, 2003. When launching the 'Castle in Crisis' campaign to save the castle, the Tivy-Side had stated;

'The people of Cardigan are speaking out loud and clear about the future of the town's historic castle - it is a national treasure that must be saved and the time to act is now.'
