PLANS by the Cadwgan Trust to buy Ty Castell (Quick Chip) are being supported by Cardigan Town Council.

The Trust, which has taken on responsibility for Cardigan Castle, wants to raise a loan to buy the property, which is on Grosvenor Hill and is described as "the last piece in the Castle jigsaw".

They say it would enable them to secure the whole Castle complex for the people of Cardigan. Ceredigion County Council is being asked to act as guarantor so that Cadwgan Building Preservation Trust can raise a bank loan to buy the property.

Town councillors are supporting this move, which is expected to be discussed by the county's Cabinet this month.

Cllr Mair Morris, a member of the Cabinet and the town council, said this week: "If Cadwgan wants Ceredigion to be guarantor the Cabinet would need a lot of legal information and would need to get all the facts straight before making a decision."

The Trust has told councillors that the banks would be prepared to offer a mortgage on the property if the application was supported by the local authorities.

Cllr Llwyd Edwards told this week's meeting of the town council: "We should support this idea in principle, but Brioude Gardens must be kept separate from any arrangement."
