Gethin Davies (Aberporth) and Ceri Jones (Rhydlewis ) recently represented Wales in the Short mat bowls world championship held in Cardiff. Teams from 13 countries participated. Gethin played in the fours and they won all their matches on the way to the semi final and ended up fourth overall. Ceri also finished fourth in the triples.

Congratulations to Llandysul Primary School football team after winning the Urdd county tournament for the second year running. The team will represent Ceredigion at the all Wales Urdd tournament in May. The girls also did well to reach the quarter finals.

A 3-1 top of the table final night win over leader James Bevan clinched the Red Dragon Premier League title for PDC star Jamie Lewis in the Hope & Anchor Singles Darts League in Cardigan. It was the 22-year-old’s seventh title on the trot since the league was established.

The season is hardly winding down on a high note for local clubs as Newcastle Emlyn crashed again when going down 19-0 at Maesteg in Division Two West and Cardigan lost 22-5 against Tycroes in a Division Three West game in the Amman Valley.

After handing out a six-of-the-best caning to Bargod Rangers and giving themselves a great chance of taking the Division One runners-up spot behind champions-elect Newcastle Emlyn it was time to reflect on what might have been for St Dogmaels who were down to clash with the Park Puw outfit in the semi-final of the League Cup but disqualified beforehand for playing an ineligible player in a previous round.

It proved a disappointing weekend for local rugby clubs as Crymych went down 14-3 at Builth Wells in Division One West, Newcastle Emlyn lost 22-17 at home against Mumbles in Division Two West and Cardigan also came unstuck on their own patch when beaten 25-18 by Haverfordwest in Division Three West.

Newcastle Emlyn twin sisters – Maggie and Kathy Howell competed in their first away dressage championship competition over the weekend. Maggie, 16, competed in the Novice Open on Georgia, and Kathryn rode one of Starlight Riding School’s horses, Cariad in the Prelim.

Bryan Rees of Llechryd will be running in his eighth London Marathon on April 13. This year he is raising money for Shalom House in St David's. Shalom House is a Palliative Care Unit which provides day care for patients with life limiting conditions. Bryan is the Chair of Trustees for the Unit and he stated that Shalom house relies heavily on donations. Cardigan RFC U15's are through to the semi-final of the Pembrokeshire Cup after winning 10-5 against Haverfordwest. An excellent performance from all the team, with tries from Geraint Williams and Wyn Williams.

Nia Davies of Cardigan enhanced her reputation in women’s rugby at the weekend with an outstanding performance for Wales in the Home Internationals wooden spoon clash with Scotland at Aberavon which the home nation won 25-0.

A small group of children from Cardigan Swimming Club recently attended the 2014 Llanelli open meet which had been relocated to Swansea. All swimmers swam well, achieving personal best times and swimming some events for the first time. Congratulation to Rhys for making the 100 back stroke final and to Dafydd for making all his finals.

Bottom of the pile Rampin stole the limelight in the latest round of fixtures by springing a 5-2 win over fifth in the table Seven Stars while at the head of affairs Clwb Rygbi, Grosvenor, Gobaith and Cardiff Arms are fighting it out for the title.

The Spencer Sport Rally Team of Penrhiwllan was back in action this weekend, when driver Jamie Jukes and co-driver James Morgan contested the second round of the Welsh Clubman's 2WD Forest Rally Championship Mid-Wales Stages. A fantastic start saw the team in fourth place overall and leading the two-wheel-drive category by a healthy margin by the end of the second stage. But their day was brought to a premature end in stage three by a broken alternator bracket.

A small team from Cardigan Swimming Club recently attended the West Wales Regional Competition held in Haverfordwest. The team did very well, Lol, Chloe and Rhys each made it to a final and Dafydd Nicholls made 6 finals. Rhys Davies won silver in 1500m freestyle and Chloe Fletcher won bronze in 200m Butterfly. Cardigan Swimming Club would like to thank Sarah and Mark Jones of Londis Stores, Brynhoffnant for their support in sponsoring the hoodies for the event. After a bad few weeks on the weather front , Bro Caron competitors had the weather on their side for the event held in the Lampeter area on 15/16th February. Teifi Valley Motor Club members had a good night of rallying and brought home a good amount of awards. John Davies of TVMC winning the event dropping only 3:36 all night. Adrian Jones/Aled Richards, 3rd overall, 2nd in class 1. Wyn Owens/Jenny Evans, 10th overall, 2nd in class 2. Mark Jukes/Dafydd-Sion Lloyd, 2nd in class 3, 30th overall. Chris Davies-navigator, 4th in class 3, 32nd overall. Mike James/Aled Jonhson, did well picking up 5th in class 3, 35th overall after a puncture. 16 year old Carwyn James from Crymych navigated for the first time and did well getting 10th in class and 40th overall also winning 1400cc award. And first event out for a while Barry Davies did well with Chris Hill navigating, the pair finishing 12th in class 2 and 43rd overall again after suffering a puncture. All round a great night of rallying for all Teifi Valley competitors.
