On the opening day last season’s runners-up Lamb A were pushed all the way by house rivals Lamb B before edging home 6-4 while Teifi Boating Club had to pull out the stops to notch a win by an identical score against Clwb Rygbi at the rugby clubhouse. The game between champions Gobaith and Bell was postponed and will be played later in the season.

The Dyfed and Welsh Archery Associations recently hosted the inaugural Welsh Festival Of Archery at Pembrey Country Park. Club archers from all over Wales came to compete at the intercounty tournament on the Saturday and The Welsh Championships on Sunday at the Cymric Archers shooting field in the park.

Well known local footballer, Steve Blackford is swapping his football boots for running shoes as he attempts the Cardiff Half Marathon, raising money for a very worthwhile local charity – Age Cymru Ceredigion, who are a charity supporting older people, their families and carers living in Ceredigion.

Two students from Tekki RS Emlyn & Llandysul Shotokan Karate Club have been selected to represent Wales at the European Shotokan Championships 2014 in Switzerland. Brother and sister, Stefan Rees (19) and Hannah Rees (17) from Newcastle Emlyn are both 2nd dan black belts and currently study at the University of the West of England in Bristol and Coleg Sir Gar in Llanelli. Members of the Wales Squad for the past four years, they train monthly in Merthyr Tydfil along with their regular club training sessions. With a strong squad of twenty one karateka, Team Wales will be heading to Zurich in November to compete against more than 20 other countries.

After a gruelling 8 miles, Newport Juniors Longboat Sea Rowing Team finished The Dinas Head Challenge in a record breaking time of 1 hour 4 minutes. In the process they raised £1,568.10 for The Wales Air Ambulance Service.

Cardigan Golf Club Seniors Captain, John Hagan, took his Seniors Section to Ross-on-Wye for their Annual Seniors Tour recently. They enjoyed three excellent courses in beautiful sunny conditions. The winner of the Simpkin Salver was Alan Tomkins who played very consistently throughout.

There were those who felt Division One leaders St Dogmaels could face a tough task at Lampeter’s North Road but Saints continued on the straight and narrow with a 2-0 win to lead on goal difference from neighbours Cardigan Town who sprang a 1-0 win over New Quay at King George V Playing Field.

A strong performance was given by Junior members of Poppit Sands SLSC who recently travelled to Exmouth, Devon to compete in The Britisn Surf lifesaving Championships. It was the most succesfull in years. Morgan Davies came in second and received a silver medal in the under 15s Surf Ski race, Morgan Davies and Alfie Bodenham also had silver in the u17s Double Surf Ski race. Lowri Davies and Menna Phillips came in third and had a bronze for their Double Surf Ski U15s race. The Taplin race cosists of a lap each of three different elements being swim, board and ski and both the boys team of Alfie Bodenham Morgan Davies and Dafydd Nicholls and girls team Bethan Phillips, Menna Phillips and Lowri Davies came in a stong third in the U17s age groups. Elin Nicholls also competed in the u13s Flags, Sprint and Ocean Lady. Well done to the team and their coach Peter Bodenham who was not available for the picture.

Junior Tivyside Pony Club members attended the last rally of 2014 at Penparc on Friday. The fun rally included gymkhana games, Chase me Charlie, a bbq and a treasure hunt. The Family show will be held this Sunday and the autumn rallies will commence end of the month. New members welcome.

Cardigan Golf Club had a busy bank holiday weekend with 3 competitions held together with a very successful barbecue on Saturday evening enjoyed by over 200 members and guests. On Saturday, the Millennium Mixed Trophy was won by Peter and Nicola Ward with 45 stableford points. In second place was Keith and Yvonne Phillips with 42 points. On Sunday, the Eivryn James Challenge Bowl attracted an excellent entry of 61. The winner of this medal competition was Ifan Jones with a nett 69 playing off a handicap of 24. In second place on count back was Barrie Davies with a nett 71 playing off 14, and in third place, again on count back, was Andrew Rodda, also with a nett 71 playing off 4. On Bank Holiday Monday, the Bendal Cup only attracted 19 entries due to the poor weather conditions. The winner was Lyndsay Morgan with a nett 70 playing off a handicap of 6. In second place was James Pegg with a nett 72 playing off 2, and in third place was Steffan Evans with a nett 74 playing off 4.

Lowri also had silver in Single Ski and Ocean Lady. Alfie Bodenham received a Silver in Flags and Bronze in Double Ski with Morgan Davies. Dafydd Nicholls won Bronze in Sea Swim and Board. Unavailable for the photo were Alfie Bodenham, Iwan John and Emily Mckenzie who also won Gold in the 1Km run.
