The Cyfres y Beirdd lecture series continues at Rhos-y-Gilwen, Cilgerran, on Thursday July 10th with a presentation of the life and work of 14th century prodigy Dafydd ap Gwilym. Resident bard Dr Diarmuid Johnson will be joined by harpist Ceri Jones of New Quay to read and perform works such as Y Wylan, Trafferth Mewn Tafarn and of course poems in praise of the radiant Morfudd, one of the bard's mistresses and muses. 'Dafydd ap Gwlym's work is recognised internationally as being an outstanding contribution from Wales to medieval literature,' said Dr Johnson, 'and Neuadd y Dderwen, Rhos-y-Gilwen, a hall in the medieval Welsh tradition, is the perfect place to bring his words and genius to life'. Following acclaimed evenings dedicated to the work of Dic Jones and R.S. Thomas, Anturiaethau Dafydd ap Gwilym yn Oes yr Hen Feirdd is the third in this series of five celebrations of major Welsh poets. The series continues on September 25th with Dylan Thomas, and ends on November 27th with Waldo Williams. Booking on 01239 841 387. Tickets £5. The evening will be conducted mainly in Welsh.
