Newcastle Emlyn Ladies Hockey Club fell to defeat at Bridgend.

The defeat followed the ladies' previous victory away to Brecon by 4-2 on March 23.

The Newcastle Emlyn team started off strong, paying close attention to Bridgend's midfield, with Elen Hill keeping an eye on their young Welsh international player with the aim of limiting her delivery into the attacking circle.

Complementary efforts from Ffion Davies and Lois Davies successfully cleared the ball from their attack circle on numerous occasions, clearing it down both wings.

An attempt on goal was made following a left-wing attack led by Alaw Elisa and captain Sara Patterson.

A possible scoring shot by Enfys Davies, facilitated by Patterson, unfortunately missed the mark.

Bridgend exploited Emlyn's preference for wing play, using the extra room to break through the middle.

Solid defence was provided by Ellie Lloyd, who prevented additional shots on goalkeeper Elin Williams.

However, Bridgend scored with a tap-in on the back post, after outnumbering players in the attacking circle.

Newcastle Emlyn Ladies tried to respond with other offensive plays.

Flo Plant’s valiant efforts on the right wing won the team a short corner, leading to a nice ball from Enfys to Heledd-Mai Lloyd who had a 1v1 against the Bridgend keeper. However, she narrowly missed on both opportunities.

Another narrowly missed opportunity followed a 1v1 standoff between Heledd-Mai Lloyd and Bridgend’s goalkeeper.

The first half ended with Bridgend up 2-0 after Bridgend kept the momentum up from their opener.

The Emlyn ladies came back ready to fight for the second half, looking for their first goal of the game.

Rosie Hughes and Efa Jones made strides on the wings but Bridgend increased their lead to 3-0 via a penalty corner after a counter attack.

Battling the odds, Newcastle Emlyn finally scored.

A successful pass from Enfys to Patterson earned the goal bringing the scoreline to 3-1.

Sioned Fflur and Plant made impressive moves and another short corner was claimed.

However, a shot taken by Mel Williams was agonisingly close, smashing off the crossbar.

Bridgend seized the opportunity to cement their win with a fourth goal scored in the game's final five minutes.

Captain Sara Patterson received the player of the match award.

Despite their defeat, the Newcastle Emlyn Ladies team remains optimistic about their rematch against Bridgend, due to be held at their Crymych home ground.

The result is expected to determine which team will qualify for Premier 2 next season.
