Donations collected at the gate of Cardigan Castle now stand at just over £15,000, Cardigan town councillors were told last week.
The cash - which has been collected over the past few years - goes into a special fund looked after by the town council.
Councillors agreed to transfer the sum to local building trust Cadwgan once the trust has obtained a lease on the castle from the county council.
Cllr Linda Grace - who was mayor when the fund was set up - said afterwards that local people and visitors had given generously to the appeal.
"The town and castle are indebted to all those who have contributed," she said.
"A special vote of thanks goes to the volunteers who have ensured that the grounds have been opened and give their time freely," she said.
