New Quay's all-weather and inshore RNLI lifeboats were launched at 3.45pm yesterday afternoon (11 February), following reports a man jumping from cliffs attached to a parachute had crashed. Milford Haven Coastguard requested the launch of both New Quay RNLI lifeboats after the alarm was raised about the incident, which happened on 500 metre high cliffs between the 'Old Lookout' and Cymtudu.

Welsh language learners in Aberaeron and the surrounding area are being invited to help launch a new interactive service enabling learners at all levels, whether complete beginners or fluent speakers, to enjoy S4C’s most popular programmes.

Following commencement of the Aberaeron North Beach Coast Protection Scheme - a scheme worth £5.35million - Ceredigion County Council has announced it now intends to arrange a public exhibition in Aberaeron during February 2009 to provide further information on the works being undertaken and also to seek the public’s views with regard to the defence options being considered for Aberaeron's harbour area.

Four members of the New Quay RNLI crew have received a letter of commendation from Michael Vlasto, Operations Director at RNLI headquarters in Poole for their brave action in recovering a body from rocks near the bay last October. The crew was mustered on a Saturday afternoon following a report that a body was seen at the foot of cliffs.

Ceredigion County Council is delighted to be one of four Welsh Local Education Authorities undertaking a two year action research project into school meals. The focus will be on development and testing the guidelines of the proposed foods and their nutritional standards.

The RNLI Lifeboat Station in New Quay is looking for volunteer shore crew to attend when lifeboats are launched and recovered. Interest is invited from young people aged 17 or over who may wish to use this experience as a springboard to becoming seagoing crew members and from more mature candidates who would like to contribute to community life.

The New Quay Branch of The Royal British Legion wish to thank everybody who helped with this year’s Poppy Appeal, the volunteer collectors, the Schools, the shops and businesses who kindly allowed our Poppy Trays and static Poppy boxes to be displayed on their premises.

Councillors in Aberaeron agreed to contribute £50 towards the running costs of the Town’s third police run ‘Blue Light Disco’. The alcohol free event for under 18’s in both Aberaeron and New Quay will go ahead in the Aberaeron Memorial Hall from 7pm-10pm on Friday 28th November.
