Not for the first time this term Llechryd just failed to winkle out lower order batsmen to secure victory and had to settle for a draw against Stackpole in a Division Two game in south Pembrokeshire.

After Llechryd were put in on a damp wicket it was all about Steve Smith on the eve of his 50th birthday, the left-hander rolling back the years as he played some delightful shots in an innings of 85.

Before Smith gave his skills an airing, openers Drew Davies (13) and Dewi Davies (10) made an encouraging start but it was Smith who set the scene alight and he was supported by another birthday boy in Joe Mansfield who a few days earlier celebrated his 18th birthday.

At the end of the allotted overs he was unbeaten on 38 as the visitors posted 205-6.

In the Stackpole reply, opener Simon Bevan went after the bowling from the word go as he compiled a fine innings of 80 and his opening partner Rob Mathias contributed 31 as the homesters appeared to be cruising to victory at 121-2.

But then the Llechryd change bowlers, John Curran and Andrew Fletcher, began to wreak havoc, the pair snapping four wickets apiece and at the end Stackpole were reduced to 176-8 and hanging on for a draw.

Llechryd pouched 21 points and there were 10 points for the home side.

Llechryd Seconds also drew in Division Three against Lamphey at the RDM Oval with the visitors picking up 28 draw points and Llechryd taking seven.

As Lamphey posted an imposing total of 259-6 Nic Johnson led the way with a fine innings of 82 which included ten boundaries and he was supported by Peter McGilloway (56) and David Blackwell (50).

Ben Graham picked up two wickets for the homesters but went for 65 runs.

Ollie Roberts was the mainstay of the Llechryd reply as he made 69 and there were useful contributions for Peter Gregory (20) and Rob Mansfield 21.

At the end the Teifisiders were 144-6.

Division Four basement boys Crymych were no match for leaders Llanrhian Seconds who scored 248-9 in the allotted overs and banked 30 points.

For the pacesetters Russell Watkins (83) and Tom Clarke (52) were the main run scorers.

Visitors Crymych were dismissed for 98 with Karl Davies snapping three wickets for 14 runs.
