RUGBY ROUND-UP

Taking another step towards League 1 West safety, Crymych brushed aside relegation rivals Tenby United 52-10 at Parc Lloyd Thomas.

A maximum points haul of five took the Preselimen to within three points of safety and with home advantage in their remaining games, starting against second in the table Gowerton tonight (Tuesday), and fifth-placed Llangennech on Saturday, Rhys 'Beaky' Davies and colleagues could escape the drop.

After running into a rich vein of form, the north Pembrokeshire villagers could end on a high with wins over bottom of the pile Tycroes and

fellow strugglers Kidwelly, which would keep them up.

In completing the double over their rivals Crymych crossed for a total of eight tries, three of them coming in the opening 40 minutes when they led

24-5.

There was no hint of what was to come as Tenby led 5-3 early on through a try by scrum-half Mathew Morgan to a penalty by home centre Jake Jenkins.

As the homesters upped the tempo with the pack rampant, tries followed from Llyr Davies, Nick Bevan and Tomos Lewis, all converted by Jenkins.

The visitors crossed for another unconverted try during the second period but that was scant consolation as they were completely outplayed with

further tries coming via Gavin Thomas, Sion Colella, Osian Davies and Carwyn Phillips.

In League 3 West A at King George V Playing Field it looked all over bar the shouting at half time as mid table Cardigan led visitors and

basement boys Llangwm 31-8.

But the Wasps came storming back after the break with No. 8 Josh Hicks leading the way with a try hat-trick.

Despite this and picking up a bonus point for scoring four tries the visitors went down 38-29.

For the homesters Marcus Castle went over for two tries and also on the scoresheet were Llyr Jones, Mathew Roebuck, Sion Hughes and Evan John with Llyr Jones landing four conversions.

In addition to Hicks the other Llangwm try scorer was Ieuan Power, three of the scores converted by Luke Hayman who also landed a penalty.
