RUGBY PREVIEW

An eighth win of the season for Newcastle Emlyn at the expense of Bedlinog at Ddol Wyber this Saturday will virtually secure safety in the highly competitive WRU Championship.

The visitors from the Taff Bargoed Valley in south-east Wales are in sixth, having won seven of their 15 games, and are one point ahead of the Red and Whites.

When they met back in October Bedlinog won 19-16 and it could be another closely fought affair with Emlyn realising that a return of four of five points would probably see them alright.

Crymych, currently at the foot of League 1 West host Ystalyfera of League 1 West Central in a re-arranged WRU National Plate quarter-final tie, the initial game having fallen victim to the weather.

The Swansea Valley visitors are unbeaten and in reaching the last eight came out on top against Cwmavon, Llandudno, Bonymaen and Maesteg while Crymych beat Llanybydder, Tondu and Penallta and received a bye in round two when Blackwood failed to raise a team.

The winners will take on Nant Conwy of Division One North, who ply their trade near Llanrwst in the Conwy Valley. The north Walians are unbeaten and whoever gets through at Parc Lloyd Thomas this weekend will likely face a demanding semi-final test.

League 3 West A mid-tablers Cardigan are away against league whipping boys Llangwm and will be expected to return north with a victory under their belts. The return game at King George V Playing Field is the final of the season on April 28.
