A bumper crowd is expected at King George V Playing Field in Cardigan on Easter Saturday (March 31) when a team of local golden oldies takes on a select Wales Veterans FA in aid of the Cardigan Cancer Care charity.

The game on the Cardigan Town pitch starts at 3pm and before that a few hundred will attend a marquee on the field with a finger buffet and after the football action there is an auction of memorabilia and entertainment provided by the Memphis Belle duo and Cardigan Rugby Club Choir.

The main sponsor is the Cliff Hotel & Spa at Gwbert-on-Sea, the marquee sponsored by Adam Cole of Dragon Wine Bar in the town centre and match ball sponsored by Dylan Thomas, Crane Hire.

The local squad comprising mostly former Maesglas players consists of Jonathan Llewellyn; Mark Lewis; Colin James; Peter Williams (player/manager); James Walters; Justin Evans; Nigel Nicholas; Clive Evans; Mike Davies (capt); Huw Davies; Ian Evans; John Bryson; Paul 'Hope' Jones; Chris 'Hope' Jones; Richard Bowen; Andrew Thomas (assistant manager); Iwan Davies; Andrew Gordon; Tommy Lovell and Kevin Townsend. Backroom staff: Richard Tucker; Derek Burton; Paul Jones; Huw Dans Jones; Stuart Thomas; Wynne Evans. Match officials: David Morris; Peter Wilson; John Rees.

There are still a few tables that can be booked in the marquee and anyone interested is asked to contact Mike Davies, Ty Twt, Gwbert (01239 614058) and those wishing to make a donation should make cheques payable to Cardigan Cancer Care.

The organisers said they were grateful to all sponsors, Cardigan Rugby Club, Cardigan Town Football Club, Ysgol Uwchradd Aberteifi for providing parking facilities and everyone who has donated to the worthy cause.
