Local derbies are the order of the day in the Costcutter League on Boxing Day with a number of intriguing games at both ends of the Division One table.

An attractive fixture sees champions and J Emrys Morgan Cup holders Llandysul at home against Easter Monday League Cup holders Newcastle Emlyn.

There has been an exodus of experienced players at Llandysul Park but a crop of youngsters have come to the fore and the Swallows are once again firing under manager Chris Coco Davies after a few hiccups earlier in the campaign.

Emlyn, currently in second are going for the title under boss Owain Thomas and maximum points on Tuesday would be sure to generate increased confidence for the second half of the season.

Lampeter Town players would love to lift the silverware as a tribute to long-serving manager Terry Jones who is stepping down at the end of the season.

The pacesetters, currently three points ahead of Emlyn host mid-table Felinfach who have hit form of late and the vastly experienced Jones is sure to impress on his charges not to take the Milkmen lightly.

At the other end of the table basement boys Dewi Stars are looking for their first success of the term as they languish four points from safety.

The Llanddewi Brefi side will be intent on lowering the colours of fourth from bottom Aberaeron Reserves and closing the gap on them to two points.

It has been an up and down season for Crannog to date but at the Urdd Centre in Llangrannog they will be strongly fancied to repel the challenge of third from bottom Cilgerran Rovers.

Last but by no means least is the game in the south where St Dogmaels will be slight favourites to lower the colours of visitors and arch rivals Cardigan Town at School Field.

A few seasons ago Cardigan ruled the roost in Mid Wales junior football when plundering an unprecedented five trophy haul and despite a rather moderate season to date it could prove imprudent to discard Ceri Adams-Lewis

and Co.

Saints under popular manager Steve Jerry Williams have flattered to deceive on a number of occasions, especially in the home cup tie against Aberystwyth League outfit Tregaron Turfs who stole a 1-0 win despite being outplayed for most of the contest.

There is very little doubt that Saints are capable of turning on the style and just four points behind the pace it is understandable that there is a growing belief among followers that this could be their time.

Not prepared to make prediction Jerry Williams told the Tivy-Side: "On our day we can play some good stuff and give anyone a game. We are bang in the firing line and let's hope things work out OK.

"If we do win the title I'm sure everyone connected with the club will dedicate it to the late Steffan Thomas and Mikey Nicholas."
