ABERPORTH Rowing Club is celebrating a famous victory at the Great River Race on the Thames.
The club sent two teams to take part, with the ladies’ team coming home a fantastic first in their category and second ladies’ team overall.
It was a superb achievement for the crew of Leah Griffiths, Ellie English, Rebecca Morris, Hayley Morris, Sarah Skinner and Samantha English.
The event – London’s river marathon – attracted entries from all over the country with 300 boats and around 2,400 competitors tackling the 21.6-mile course.
Samantha English said: “We're absolutely thrilled to win this trophy.
“It was a full-on race from start to finish over the 21.6 miles, our competitors finishing only 22 seconds after us and chasing us all the way.
“Our ladies dug deep and despite the thunder and lightning, kept pushing hard to secure their win.”
