There are likely to be nerves jangling in the Llandysul and Merthyr Tydfil camps on Saturday when both attempt to avoid relegation in the South Wales Cricket Association Division One.

With bottom-of-the-pile Briton Ferry Steel doomed, either Llandysul or Merthyr will accompany them in the drop.

As it stands the Teifisiders have a ten-point cushion and a win at Cowbridge would guarantee safety and send down Merthyr who host fourth in the table Bronwydd.

When Llandysul hosted Cowbridge back in June the visitors won by five wickets while Bronwydd sprang a one-wicket win over Merthyr on the same day.

In their penultimate game Llandysul held on by their fingernails for a draw against newly-crowned champions Llanelli at Tir-Dref and picked up nine priceless points.

After being put in Llanelli posted 142 in 49.5 overs and in reply the homesters made 121-9 in 50 overs.

The visitors were far from fluent as the Teifisiders bowled line and length and fielded in style.

Llanelli were indebted to number four Mathew Roberts who overcame the loss of quick wickets and pulled his side out of trouble with a swashbuckling innings of 55, which included four fours and three sixes).

Ian Marsh, Rhydian Harries and skipper Andrew Edwards claimed three wickets apiece.

Llandysul lost Meurig Jones without scoring but skipper Andrew Edwards (24), Ben Edkins (32) and Llewellyn Hughes (26) gave the innings some impetus.

At the end of their allotted 40 overs Llandysul held on for a draw.
