PEMBROKESHIRE CRICKET

The promotion aspirations of Llechryd in Division Two of the Pembroke County League were dealt a telling blow as the Teifisiders went down to a five-run defeat at lowly Stackpole.

With three fixtures left it now appears that the villagers will miss out on elevation to the top flight and on the evidence of Saturday's showing there were those that felt Llechryd would experience difficulty surviving in Division One.

Stackpole posted 148-9 thanks mainly to opener Richard MacKay who made an unbeaten 72 which included 12 boundaries and he was given support from James Adie (24) and Jonathan Hughes (24).

Super veteran seamer Peter Betterley was best of the visiting bowlers with figures of 4-25.

In reply Llechryd found it tough going against accurate bowling and sharp ground fielding and despite left-hander Steve Smith hitting 41 and Michael Carter making 31 the visitors were bowled out for 143.

Medium-pacer Alan Webster did the damage for Stackpole as he picked up four wickets for 25 runs and there were two wickets for Marcus Adie.

Stackpole banked 28 points and there were seven points for the visitors.

Llechryd Seconds fared far better than the seniors as they notched a 43-run win over their Kilgetty counterparts at the RDM Oval.

The Teifisiders posted 159-7 with Andrew Fletcher (36), Richard Connolly (30) and Peter Gregory (28 not out) the main run contributors.

In reply the visitors were dismissed for 116 as Malcolm McHugh returned figures of 6-20.

Crymych are in third place 26 points behind second in the table Llechryd Seconds after the Preselimen sprang a nine-wicket away win over Burton 2nds.

Burton were bowled out for 93 with Ioan Roberts making 22 and Andrew Cromwell contributing 19.

Harri Dunn had figures of 3-17 and there were two wickets for Andrew Thomas.

Crymych knocked off the runs for the loss of one wicket thanks to Sam Kurtz who continued his good run with an unbeaten 72.
