Rising magnificently to the occasion, Llechryd sprang a two-wicket win over Pembroke County Cricket League Division Two promotion rivals Narberth at the RDM Oval.

When the rivals met earlier in the season second in the table Narberth came out on top but in Saturday's crunch return encounter it was the Teifisiders who did the business and moved to within 18 points of their rivals with five fixtures remaining.

A lot will depend on results this coming weekend when Llechryd visit fourth in the table Burton and Narberth host leaders and title favourites Llangwm.

After a bright opening Narberth lost wickets regularly due to superb bowling and fielding and a strong batting line-up was reduced to a total of 151 and seven points.

At one stage in the Llechryd reply reaching the target appeared straightforward but wickets fell and needing ten runs to win with eight wickets down it was a nervous time before the homesters crossed the winning line.

At the top of the order John Curran continued in great form scoring 43 and was backed up by Michael Carter who contributed 37.

In a Division Four game reduced to 28 overs per side Llechryd 2nds won by seven wickets against Burton 2nds and moved 27 points clear of third in the table Crymych.

Burton posted 109-6 and in reply the visitors reached 112-3 and picked up 26 points.

After losing Josh Ward to an outfield catch early on youngsters Joe Mansfield and Jac Davies steadied the boat while Peter Gregory went after the bowling in making 42 as Llechryd got home in the 23rd over.
