NEWCASTLE Emlyn under-16 girl footballers are heading for the Welsh Cup final on April 2 when they will take on Rhydyfelin at Stebonheath, Llanelli.

Since moving up into the West Wales Women's and Girls League in 2014/15 season, the girls gone from strength to strength. Their debut season saw them finishing second in the league. Then in 2015/16 season, they finished top of the league, won the regional cup and won the FAW National Women's and Girl’s Tournament.

During the 15/16 season, two girls gained Welsh caps, a further three were successful in gaining places in the Swansea City Girls Development Squad and many were involved with the regional squads. As things stand this season, they are currently joint at the top of the league and have made it to two finals – the League Cup Final and The Welsh Cup Final.

“Reaching the Welsh Cup final is a huge achievement for the girls as we are the first team from the West Wales Division to get this far in the tournament. This is nothing more than the girls deserve after all the effort and commitment they have shown over the seasons,” said one of the parents, Dylan Jones.

The final is at Stebonheath, Llanelli, on Sunday, April 2 with kick off at 2pm. They will play against Rhydyfelin.

Dylan added: “We would like to thank all the businesses and individuals that have been very generous in sponsoring the team. If you are able to make it to the game your support would be much appreciated. We have free bus for supporters leaving from Newcastle Emlyn Football Club.”
