FOR the first time in the long history of Cardigan & District Pool League two teams based at the rugby clubhouse Cardigan Rugby Club (formerly Teifi Boating Club ) and Clwb Rygbi clashed in the final of the annual 7s Knockout with the former staging a stirring comeback to emerge 4-2 winners.

Clwb Rygbi got off to a flyer when Kevin Davies kept cool to defeat Darren Barker and the advantage was doubled through Victor Burns who got the better of Mathew Morgan.

But then the Rugby Club staged a fighting comeback when Phil Parson lowered the colours of Simon Davies, skipper Alan Lewis produced an inspirational clearance to level matters, Toby Jackson defeated Kevin 'Council' Phillips and last season's player-of-the-year Geraint Evans emerged a winner against Mark Belotti and took his team over the winning line.

The league programme resumes tonight after a short break with Red Lion top of the pile and on course to win the title for the first time.

The hotshot Red cueists ended the first half of the campaign with a 10-0 win over Wine Bar B and have drawn four points clear of reigning champions Lamb A in second spot.

Fixtures: Lamb A v Lamb B; Red Lion A v Red Lion B; Wine Bar A v Wine Bar B; Rugby Club v Clwb Rygbi; Bell v Hope & Anchor.
