THERE was elation in local rugby circles after the draw for round five of the WRU National Bowl gave Cardigan of League 3 West a home tie against Denbigh.

The game at King George V Playing Field on Saturday, January 14, is likely to attract a sizeable crowd as Llyr Griffiths and Co bid for a

quarter-final place and get to within 160 minutes of an appearance in the final at the Principality Stadium.

A club spokesperson said: "We are obviously delighted to get a home draw but know it will be a big ask against Denbigh who are flying high in their league."

On the way to this stage the Cardis won 90-7 at home against St Davids, sprang another home win when overcoming Laugharne 45-29 in the second round, had to go to extra time before winning 10-7 against visitors Usk in round three and in the fourth round won 13-8 against Bettws in the Amman Valley.

Denbigh who are second in League 2 North West, emerged 36-18 winners away against Llangollen in round one, were 62-5 winners at Bangor in the second round, sprang a 27-18 home win over Crumlin in round three and in the fourth round came out on top 17-15 at home against Tonyrefail.
