THE Urdd Centre at Llangrannog has on several occasions over the years proved anything but a happy hunting ground for in-form Costcutter League sides, but Division One early leaders Llandysul experienced few problems as the visitors turned on the style in springing a fully-deserved 4-2 win over battling Crannog.

Quick as lightning striker Simon Davies stole the limelight again for the Swallows with a superb hat-trick and an assist. The front-runner, who

refuses to be intimidated by close attention from defenders and gets on with the job in hand, has now found the net nine times in Llan's successful four-game opening run.

Hitting the ground running, Llandysul pushed the homesters back and the two goals they netted in the opening 19 minutes were no more than their efforts deserved.

Hitman Davies fed Scott Thomas to slide home the opener and the striker hit the first of his three when running through the defence.

During the early stages of the second period Llandysul were indebted to 6ft 4inch goalkeeper John Durbridge who tipped over two goalbound attempts before Crannog halved the deficit when George Colven netted from 12 yards.

Simon Davies restored his side's two goal advantage when picking the ball up on the right and leaving three would-be tacklers in his wake before netting in style.

A Colven half-volley put full-of-fight Crannog right back into contention but that man Davies had the final say when cleverly chipping the

goalkeeper to put the visitors out of sight.

Afterwards Llandysul manager Chris 'Coco' Davies said "We got our game together from the start and played some good football - I was really pleased how things went."

The 6-1 scoreline at Parc Arthur where New Quay went down against champions Cardigan Town was not a true reflection of the game in which the Seasiders gave the visitors plenty to think about, especially during the opening 45 minutes after which they trailed 2-1.

Town showed their class when raising their game during the second half and running out comfortable winners.

The effervescent Sam Hall led the scoring for the Magpies with a hat-trick while the other goals came via on-song wide midfielder Iwan Jones,

Lee Burrows and inspirational Iestyn Evans.

Lampeter Town also made it three from three with a comfortable 9-2 win over depleted Bargod Rangers at North Road.

Without the services of a number of regulars from last season Rangers struggled throughout and unless new faces can be introduced it could be a long season for the Drefach Felindre club.

It was game, set and match before the break with the mid county side leading 4-1 and on auto pilot thanks to goals by Gethin Hunter, Luke Lovell, Christy Gale and Gethin Davies.

After the interval Gethin Davies netted his second, Lovell went on to complete a hat-trick, Terry Witts converted a penalty and Scott Davies hit the ninth goal.

St Dogmaels could muster only a bare eleven players for the journey to take on promoted Dewi Stars at Llanddewi and seven days after a hammering at Lampeter the Teifi Estuary villagers crashed 4-1.

There is no let-up for Saints this Saturday when high-flying Llandysul provide the opposition at School Field but if the Greens can put out their

best starting eleven it could prove imprudent to rule out an upset.

As Stars pulled most of the strings attacking livewire Ifan Thomas was the hero of the hour with a hat-trick and the other marksman was Gethin Thomas.

Newcastle Emlyn were forced to dig deep before emerging 2-1 winners at Felinfach where home fans felt their favourites deserved at least a share of the spoils.

Former Bargod Rangers favourite Sam Skinner and Dion Davies did the business for the Teifisiders with Lee Forester replying for the Milkmen.

Another promoted club Cilgerran Rovers notched a second success in four attempts when sauntering to a 6-1 win over Aberaeron Reserves at Parc y Dre.

Former Cardigan Town youngster Louis Harding was the goal hero for the Coraclemen with a hat-trick and the other marksmen were vastly experienced front-runner Jonny James, Aaron Williams and Gary Evans.
