Relegation-haunted Crymych of League 1 West and Newcastle Emlyn of the Championship eased their worries in emerging last gasp away winners over Felinfoel and Newbridge respectively.

After the weekend Crymych find themselves eight points clear of the drop zone and have the advantage of six home fixtures in the run-in.

The north Pembrokeshire villagers faced a demanding assignment against promotion candidates Felinfoel at St George Field in Llanelli especially as they reached the oranges leading by just one point before playing into driving rain during the second period.

But that’s when the Preselimen stood up to be counted with everyone in their ranks playing his part to the full.

Impressive scrum-half Luke Rogers landed two first half penalties for Crymych while No. 8 Laurence Reynolds crashed over for a try to keep the promotion highflyers in contention.

In a great second half performance the Crymych pack rose to the occasion with Andrew Phillips, Joe Powell and Aled Harries outstanding.

Winger Nick Bevan squeezed over wide out to put the Preselimen in the ascendancy but two penalties by outside half Aled Roberts brought the scores level.

As Felinfoel threw everything but the kitchen sink at their opponents the visitors stood tall with Tomi Jones, Dan Davies and Carwyn James in particular defending heroically.

With time running out No. 8 Joe Powell became the hero of the hour with a try that gave his side a superb result.

Emlyn left it even later to spring an 18-17 win over Newbridge as the visitors won from the last play of the contest.

Victory moved the Red and Whites into eighth in the table eleven points clear of second from bottom Glynneath.

The Red and Whites also avenged a 24-8 defeat at the hands of the Gwent side in the Teifi Valley back in November.

In diabolical conditions at the Welfare Ground the west Walians led 11-7 after the opening 40 minutes, their points coming from a try by veteran outside half Barry Thomas and a penalty landed by influential fullback Shaun Leonard.

Newbridge got a try by scrum-half Lloyd Peart converted by his halfback partner Kieran Meek.

With the homesters leading 17-11 in the dying moments the referee awarded Emlyn a penalty try for a scrummaging offence and Leonard added the extras for an unlikely victory.
