THEY have travelled all over Britain in recent months, but talented Crymych twins Ioan and Garan Croft will be boxing just one mile from home when they appear on Cardigan Amateur Boxing Club's eagerly-anticipated show at Crymych Leisure Centre on Friday, January 29.

The twins – both high in the British rankings in their respective weight classes – are assured of huge vocal support in what will be the first boxing show ever staged in their home town.

And the twins' father, Cardigan ABC head coach Guy Croft, said the 14-year-olds simply cannot wait to perform in front of home fans at a venue which is literally next door to the school they attend – Ysgol y Preseli.

“Ioan and Garan are used to living out of a suitcase,” said Croft, himself a former Cardigan ABC heavyweight. “They have travelled to Cornwall, Wolverhampton and Southampton already this season so are really desperate to experience the novelty of boxing before a home crowd.

“It'll be really strange boxing at a venue they could actually walk to - for once they'll be able to leave the suitcase at home!

“There is a real buzz in Crymych about this show and the amount of support we've received from sponsors has been fantastic.

“As far as we know, there's never been boxing in Crymych before so all our kids are really keen to put on a good show.”

While Garan's opponent has yet to be announced, Ioan – the reigning British and Welsh champion – will be pitted against a high-quality opponent in Lennox Gill, of Portsmouth's Golden Ring ABC. The pair are due to meet for the first time in Southampton this Saturday (January 16).

Popular Cardigan welterweight Ben Rees-Davies – now a serving soldier in the Welsh Regiment – returns home for a bout with Angelo Dragone, of Swansea's Premier ABC.

Other Cardigan boxers lined up to appear include schoolboys Adam Lawrence and Cai Llewellyn, from Letterston, Scott Beynon (Cilgerran), Joe O'Sullivan (Fishguard), Corey Hayes (Crymych) and Tom Morris, of Mathry.

Bout of the night could very well be the long-awaited match-up between Pontypool's classy Welsh welterweight champion Kieran Gethin and the Army's Connor Vine.

The show begins at 7.30pm. Entry (£10 adults; £5 under-16s) on the door.
