HEADS are being turned over the exploits of Lampeter Town after the mid county side took Bargod Rangers’ unbeaten record with a 5-1 win in round two of the J Emrys Morgan Cup.

As Terry Jones’s charges brushed aside Rangers on their own Parc Puw stamping ground it completed a run of six league and cup successes since losing 4-1 at home in the league against champions Cardigan Town on September 19.

In the successful run Town have sprung away wins over Newcastle Emlyn, St Dogmaels and Rangers and likely to be in confident mood for this Saturday’s Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies round two away clash with holders Cardigan.

Two seasons ago the North Road cup battlers lifted the Emrys Morgan after a final victory over Caersws Reserves and on current form can be considered real contenders once again.

The only surprise at Drefach Felindre was that the visitors did not win by a wider margin after outplaying their opponents for lengthy periods.

It was essentially a team effort that carried the day but special mention should be made of Gareth Edwards who seemed to cover every blade of grass on the pitch and was largely responsible for Rangers’ leading marksman Robbie Jenkins hardly having a sniff throughout.

The North Road hotshots led 3-0 at the break, their goals coming via Terry Witts who was set up by Steve Lovell, prolific marksman mark Rivers and influential central midfielder Christy Gale.

Rangers replied with a breakaway goal early in the second half but the same tempo continued as Joe Jenkins headed home at a corner and Mark Rivers made it a nap hand.

In an all division two tie Llanboidy emerged 3-0 winners over St David’s University College Lampeter at the College Fields where midfielder Aled Young fired the visitors ahead and two goals by striker Owen Jenner during the second half made it plain sailing of the west Carmarthenshire visitors.

Maesglas of the second division looked dead and buried when trailing Aberystwyth University by two goals but the Blues mounted a comeback with Kieran Harman hitting a hat-trick.
