AS the Costcutter League season draws to a close four clubs are preparing to do battle tomorrow for a place in the final of the Bay Cup and the season has been extended by six days until Friday, May 29 when the final is held at Ffostrasol.

Pencader and Newcastle Emlyn go head-to-head in a repeat of the League Cup semi-final clash in March when a Daniel Jones strike sent the Carmarthenshire villagers through to the Easter Monday final where they went down against Cardigan Town.

The Division Two champions reached the penultimate stage of the competition after coming from two goals down at St Dogmaels to win 3-2.

A John Curran header and a Ioan Owen strike gave Saints a 2-0 interval lead but the Teifi Estuary villagers ran out of steam. The homesters were left to rue a hatful of missed chances in the opening 45 minutes that could have put them out of sight.

As it was Pencader grew in stature and netted through Ashley Summers (2) and Adrian Hazelby.

Prolific marksman Peter Almond and Oliver Evans bagged a brace of goals apiece and Jake Harris was also on target as Emlyn claimed a 5-0 quarter-final win over Ffostrasol of the Second Division at Parc Emlyn but are likely to face a far sterner test against tomorrow’s opponents.

In the other semi-final team of the season Cardigan Town tackle Felinfach, who finished third from bottom of Division One.

Understrength Cardigan were made to dig deep before reaching the penultimate stage with a 3-2 win over full-of-fight Bargod Ranges at King George V Playing Field.

Justin Evans, James Evans and Steve Blackford were the Town marksmen with Robbie Jenkins and Dion Phillips netting for Rangers.

In the last eight Felinfach and New Quay shared four goals after extra time with the Milkmen going through 5-4 on penalties.
