The Division Two clash between last season’s Division Three champions Llechryd and runners-up Hook at the Castell Malgwyn ground went the way of the visitors who sprang a seven-wicket win and moved into third.

It was a fourth defeat in the higher grade for the Teifisiders and once again it was a failure with the bat that was their undoing as they were dismissed for 104, a total nowhere near enough to secure a first victory.

Batting first Llechryd lost wickets at regular intervals with only opener Michael Carter with 41 providing any real resistance against seamer Mathew Holder who snapped six wickets for 31 runs. Wayne Griffiths returned figures of 2-10 and Bradley Flood also picked up a wicket.

Hook had few problems in knocking off the runs for the loss of three wickets. Jamie Phelps (30), Brennan Lay (27) and Wayne Griffiths (10) made sound contributions before Jake Wicks (22 not out) and Tom Blaxland (16 not out) saw the visitors safely home. Scott Thomas picked up two wickets for the homesters.

Crymych could have fancied their chances against Division Three leaders Camrose & Spittal after the Preselimen posted 182-8 in their allotted 45 overs.

But the visitors showed just why they are on top of the pile by setting about the Crymych attack and knocking off the runs for the loss of four wickets.

Richard Thomas was the star batsman for the Glandy Cross side in scoring 102 and he was given good support from Sam Kurtz (29). Thomas Davies took three wickets for the visitors.

As Hook went for the runs Martin James led the way with a brilliant undefeated 103 and Richard James kept him company for a lengthy period with a patient innings of 47.

Like their seniors Llechryd 2nds were left at the bottom of the pile after a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of St. Ishmaels 2nds in Division Five.

The visitors were dismissed for a paltry 58 with Steve Williams the top scorer on 13 and St. Ishmaels got the runs for the loss of three wickets. Brennan Devonald was their star with an unbeaten half century.

To complete a miserable day for local teams Crymych 2ndswere brushed aside by seven wickets by Division Six pacemakers Camrose & Spittal 2nds.

The Preselimen were bowled out for 67 and their opponents sauntered to victory for the loss of three wickets. Jim Houlden (18) was top scorer for Crymych.
