Underdogs Bargod Rangers left their Costcutter League Division One form behind as they rose to the occasion to beat New Quay 1-0 at Aberaeron on Easter Monday and lift the League Cup for the first time in more than 40 years.

A poignant touch afterwards was the club dedicating the win to club stalwart and former treasurer Glanville ‘Goss’ Evans who died in February.

In a rather scrappy affair with most of the play confined to the middle of the pitch and chances at a premium the only gaol of the game came ten minutes from the end.

Owen Thomas threaded a deck-level through pass and Shaun Leonard became the hero of the hour for the Drefach Felindre side when calmly slotting the ball past Sam Bertie.

The gaol earned Leonard the man-of-the-match accolade but he also squandered a number of clear-cut opportunities while New Quay raiders Chris Atkinson and David Evans also missed chances.
