The Teifiside Motor Club held a two day scramble at Helyg Fach fields, Aberporth, incorporating the Cardiganshire Grand National, last weekend.

As many riders were saving themselves for Sunday's racing, Saturday's racing was a quiet affair, with Terry Challinor, Mike Wright and Glen Mottishead ably supported by 72 year old Dennis Butterworth being the main contenders, with TC winning everying he was involved in. Ray Everitt had the bad luck of running a big end in his big Harley engined machine. His second bike also had problems so he had no alternative but to make an early departure on Sunday.

A one minute's silence was observed on Sunday for Geraint Davies, Cardigan, who died suddenly at a young age. He had been a founder member of the club and had been a good supporter and helper. The racing on Sunday was fast and furious, especially between Terry Challinor and Rob Jones, Llanidloes, in the Pre 65 unlimited class. Terry coming out on top - but the quality of their performance was amazing and a joy to watch.

Glen Mottishead gave a good account of himself on a borrowed BSA,m and he won the Pre 60 and 65 combined class. The second race in this block qualified for the Cardigan Grand National Shield, previously won by the great Jeff Smith. So Glen is in good company. Mike Wright, a potential winner in this race had the cruel luck of a battery lead coming off, when in the lead.

In the Pre 74 class John Littler was in a class of his own followed by Rhys Edwards, son of Berian. Rhys won the 'Rider of the Meeting' award - was it because he beat his father!

In the Twinshocks, Brian Littler was the man to beat. Dylan Davies from Newcastle Emlyn bravely rode on after a nasty smash in the face from a flying stone.

The Grandslam was won by Terry Challinor, and the Sportsman class by John Harris. Dennis Butterworth at 72, gave very creditable performances on both days, especially the Saturday when he recorded a couple of third places. Best young rider was Mathew Morrisey, Cardigan.
