A fund started by three Cardigan housewives in July 1998 in the wake of four attacks on graves in the local cemetery, has been handed over by them to the town council.
Over a period of seven months scores of headstones were toppled over like a stack of playing cards, causing acute distress and anger to people with loved ones buried in the cemetery.
The fund set up by Caroline Morgan, Tracey Williams and Rose Jenkins was aimed at raising funds to meet the cost of installing security cameras at the burial ground.
At last week's meeting of the council it was agreed to accept £1,200 raised by the campaigners, which is to be deposited in a special cemetery account, and ways of spending the money to enhance the cemetery will be considered at a later date.
