Newly-promoted Pencader showed their intentions for the new campaign with a well worked and fully deserving win against St Dogmaels.

Following their plucky display against Cardigan the previous week they proved too strong for the Saints who do not often concede five goals on their own School Field.

In what was on the whole a fairly even first half Ceri Rees got the only goal of the period for the visitors when he shot home a low effort from 12 yards. The homesters battled hard to get back on level terms with a couple of opportunities for Darren Baker being the pick of their efforts.

After the turnaround however, Pencader completely stamped their authority on the game with Rees adding a further two to complete his hat trick. Iwan Owen pulled one back to give his side a glimmer of hope only for Rees Beasley and Wayne Mason to put the contest way beyond the Saints' reach.

As Pencader notched their second win of the season both Cardigan and Aberaeron made it four in a row to maintain their unbeaten records. Playing their fourth home game of the campaign Cardigan though were given an early fright by lowly Felinfach.

Within two minutes of the start the visitors had opened their account through the elusive Jeff Kellaway who 10 minutes later doubled his side's advantage in identical manner.

Seemingly on the ropes Cardigan rallied and a couple from Richard Evans brought them back on level terms before the interval. In the second half he added another two and with Simon Jones also scoring a hat trick the early match scares were soon forgotten.

Aberaeron made the long trek to Llanboidy and despite missing the experienced Jonathan Evans, Jason Jones and Gwyndaf Lewis had little difficulty in picking up maximum points.

All in all it was an impressive performance by the champions and at this rate will take some beating. Two goals from Jody Costello and one each from Delme Lloyd and Gavin Roberts proved to be the undoing of Llanboidy for whom Clive Jones had an excellent game in midfield.

Llanybydder made it three wins from four starts with a two goal victory over struggling Ffostrasol who after 360 minutes of football are still looking for their first goal of the season.

They made a number of positional changes on Saturday but despite both Mark Jones and Gethin Thomas going close it was a couple of goals from Dai Morgan in the second half that clinched the points for the visitors. In a rather scrappy affair Lampeter proved too strong for Aberporth who still find themselves anchored to the foot of the First Division. Gethin Young gave the homesters the perfect start when after 10 minutes he was on hand to turn a half blocked cross from Terry Witts.

Rhydian Williams nearly added a second only for his effort to hit the bar but on the whole the visiting rearguard held firm before Young struck again a few minutes after the interval.

Aberporth kept themselves in the game when Aled Evans pulled one back but it was Lampeter who had the last laugh when Mark Wilkins broke through to grab his side's third.

In the Second Division the early indications are that it could be a three horse race for the Championship involving Llandysul, New Quay and Saron. Having lost their first game to New Quay Llandysul made amends against Bargod. After Geraint Davies had given the homesters a 15th minute lead. Llyr Thomas led the way against his former club with a hat trick before substitute Bleddyn Davies wrapped it up with almost his first touch of the game.

Whilst New Quay hit Aberporth Reserves for six Saron scored four for the second week running as they beat Cilgerran. All their goals came in the first half with Andy Davies' opener being followed by a couple from Steve Furnace and an Adam Jones volley.

As Aberaeron Reserves and Newcastle Emlyn shared the spoils on Square Field Gwili notched up their first win of the season at the expense of Felinfach Reserves. Despite trailing at the interval they bagged the points through an Aled Evans hat trick whose third goal followed excellent approach work by youngster Jason Williams.
