Cardigan 3 Dunvant 32

Cardigan battled hard against high-flying Dunvant but were unable to contain the visiting side's big pack - although the Cardis deserve credit for sticking to the task and never allowing the second-placed side in the section to overwhelm them.

Cardigan found themselves 15-3 adrift at half time, the visitors opening the scoring with an unconverted try by full back Wyn Banfield as he won the race for the touch-down after an astute kick ahead. Cardigan reduced the margin to two points and showed what they could do in a promising start when good work by their pack earned a penalty which was slotted by centre Alun Williams. There was no shortage of commitment from the likes of Richard Jones, Aled Harries and veteran Eurfyl Davies in the front row, whilst Chris Jones was outstanding at No 8 as he tackled well alongside skipper Barry John and Eurwyn Davies, making a welcome return to the fray after a long absence.

But Dunvant had a try by centre Gary Rombach, converted by winger Simon Jenkins, who also landed a penalty right on the break when the Cardis were penalised harshly for wheeling the scrum. Dunvant's expertise at using the lineout take and drive paid dividends after the oranges when prop James Davies crashed over and then flanker Marcus Thomas, the former Neath hooker, did exactly the same for Jenkins to add the extra points.

The visitors rounded off the scoring right at the end when another chip ahead allowed Jenkins to increase his points tally with a try - and Cardigan will be hoping to achieve a better result this Saturday as they entertain Felinfoel.
