After an enforced break, due to imposed livestock movement restrictions, normality was restored at Clunderwen last weekend with the Young Farmers Club's annual show held at Parc y Llwyn on Bank Holiday Saturday.

With shows of this kind in the village dating back almost 70 years the club always has the full support and encouragement of past and present members.

Secretary Sharon Harries said that more work needs to be done to bring the show back to its former strength but feels that, with welcome backing from Planed, the event still has a very promising future.

From the beef classes Geraint and Sian Bowen led the Continental section with their Limousin cow, Bapton Mandolin, and her calf, Alcat Ukulele, was judged to be the best breeding animal under a year old.

The British breeds winner was the 10 month old Hereford bull, Lax Focus, entered by Anthony John with Dai Thomas1s 11 month old cross bred Limousin heifer, Sabrina, taking the commercial prize.

Holstein breeders Simon and Sian Davies took champion and reserve in the dairy classes with their March calved heifer, Castellhyfryd Windstar Diz and the May calved second calver, Castellhyfryd Integrity Sugar. Nine year old Ellie Robinson won the child handler section with Anthony Gibby's five month old Holstein heifer and Trudy Dowdeswell and James Davies carried all before them to take best from the sheep classes with their superb two year old Texel ram, Nanteinon Half Back.

Supreme from the horse rings was Brian Llewellyn with his Section A brood mare, the 13 year old grey Fieldcote Sunbonnet shown with her filly foal.

The show's very popular choice as president for 2003 was Mrs Rosemary Twose, Maenhir, Login, who had served the committee well for several years as secretary. The president-elect is also a former secretary, Mr Spencer Harries.
