The Tivy-Side's Castle in Crisis campaign was singled out for special praise at the UK Regional Press Awards at the Hilton Hotel, London.
The panel of judges - which included some of the nation's top media names - said the Tivy-Side's campaign to save Cardigan Castle was "a huge effort by a tiny team".
And though the Tivy-Side was pipped at the post for community campaign of the year by Bristol daily the Western Daily Press, the competition's chairman, Philippa Kennedy OBE, said the Tivy-Side came a very close second.
"It was an excellent campaign and you were up against some very stiff competition. You were that close to winning and should all be very proud of yourselves," she said.
The Tivy-Side was the only Welsh weekly newspaper to make the awards finals this year.
