EVERY picture tells a story - but in the case of Castle Green House that story is one of dereliction and decay.

In these exclusive pictures, the Tivy-Side has been given an insight into the ruinous state of the Georgian mansion, which together with the 12th century castle is on the market for £1.25m.

Castle historian Glen Johnson - who last visited the house just over 10 years ago - was taken aback at the signs of destruction caused by the weather.

The roof on the north tower has all but collapsed - exposing stonework and timber to the elements.

The picture of the north tower bedroom - see picture - particularly saddened Mr Johnson.

"The last time I was there the roof was intact. Now you can see daylight through the ceiling.

"Basically, once the roof has gone that is it. It's obvious that it is very much a race against time. The roof needs to be weatherproofed as soon as possible," he said.

A formal offer has been made by Ceredigion County Council to buy Cardigan Castle. Confirming this yesterday (Tuesday), council Leader Cllr Dai Lloyd Evans said it would not be right for him to divulge details of the offer at this stage. "The ball is in their court now and there is obviously still some way to go on this," he added.
