Division Two (West): Cwmavon 20 points Cardigan 8 points

Cardigan lost their fifth league match in a row as they went down to defeat at Cwmafon, a disappointing result since the Cardis had played well into the wind in the first half and there was every indication that they might halt their run of reverses with the elements in their favour throughout the second period.

But it was Cwmavon who managed to raise their tempo and grabbed all 12 points after the break - leaving Cardigan to reflect on the taking of wrong options and not managing to build on the fact that they enjoyed a territorial advantage.

Cwmavon opened the scoring with a try from lock Mark Jones from a lineout take and drive - but Cardigan showed what they could do with a cracking try in the 21st minute, scored by winger Duncan Lewis. No 8 Chris Jones, who caught the eye in the first half, initiated the move with a charging run that was continued by skipper Barry John, playing in the back row because Elgan Vittle was available on dual registration from Narberth in the centre. He found Aled Harries in support and the hooker earned a penalty which was quickly taken for Vittle to send Lewis racing over in the corner.

Alun Williams missed the conversion but slotted a penalty after good work by Colin Davies, Richard Jones and Eurfyl Davies - but Cwmavon bounced back with a penalty by outside half Steve Browning which tied up the game at 8-8 after 40 minutes.

Unfortunately, Cardigan were unable to add any further points in the second period, although they again had the better of the play territorially, and Cwmavon regained the lead after 50 minutes when quick hands allowed John Myzen to come in from the blind-side wing to score a fine try which Browning converted.

Full back Huw Edwards added a third try for Cwmavon to set the seal on Cwmavon's win - and now the Cardis take on Dunvant at home in another big match this Saturday.
