'OUTSTANDING' was the word that most often tripped from the lips of one judge after another in the horse section at Cardigan Show.
And it was the word that above all else aptly applied to the section's supreme champion - the event's two-year-old Welsh Cob Section D breed champ 'Mr Tom' owned and shown by Idris and Cynthia James, of Hendrewen, Manorowen, Fishguard.
Both vouched for the fact that 'Mr Tom' is a good 'un who has more than earned his keep on their mixed dairy, beef and sheep holding.
Breed champion at the Royal Welsh the previous week, 'Mr Tom', sired by Nebo Tomos, was a winner on all-but-one of his nine show appearances last year.
The James' derive considerable pleasure from their string of Section D Cob breeding mares and two stallions that figure in their hobby.
Their supreme champion was described as "a smasher" by the judge, Mr Geraint Davies who chose Welsh Part-Bred champion 'Cupid Hill Mystic Maid of Martell', owned by Mrs Ann Pritchard Simmons, Cardiff.
Back at home Mystic Maid, is simply known as 'Dotty' .
"In coming here today I had to be up at the crack of dawn, but it was well worth it," she commented.
