Local MP Adam Price has welcomed the Assembly Government’s publication of the Welsh Language LCO. The proposals will give Welsh an equal official status with English and establish a Welsh language commissioner. The proposals are wide ranging with the major significance being the right for legislation on the language to be made in Wales.

Adam Price MP said: "This is excellent news for the language and for Welsh speaking communities like Carmarthenshire. The proposals to give Welsh equal official status with English and for the establishment of a Welsh language commissioner are a major step forward and Alun Ffred Jones AM and the Plaid Assembly team should be commended for taking that step. It seems only sensible that legislation on the Welsh language to be made in Wales."

Adam added: "The measure will help provide a greater use of the language and give greater rights to speakers. There is a fine Welsh language tradition in the county and the proposals put forward by the Heritage Minister will help benefit Welsh speakers in the area."
