A MOYLEGROVE woman who looked after evacuee children at Llechryd during the Second World War has recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

Annie George, who now lives at Dol y Felin, St Clears, was visited by Carmarthenshire County Council chairman Cllr Mansel Charles and his consort Bethan Charles-Davies to mark the occasion.

Mrs George was one of 10 children and was born in Glandy, Moylegrove, on July 31, 1918, to William and Elizabeth James.

She trained as a TB nurse at St Brides, Pembrokeshire. In 1939 and during the Second World War she looked after evacuee children at Castle Malgwyn, Llechryd, often travelling back with the children when they were returning to their homes in London.

She married her husband Garfield in 1948 and they had two children - Henry and Mair. She now has three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Mrs George received cards from Her Majesty The Queen, First Minister Carwyn Jones, The Secretary of State for Wales, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and Carmarthenshire County Council to mark her birthday.
