THE bid to save Ceredigion’s only all-weather lifeboat will step up another notch when campaigners stage a public meeting at New Quay next month.

Following the RNLI’s decision to replace New Quay’s current all-weather lifeboat with a smaller, inshore lifeboat in 2020 following a review, a community-led initiative has been founded to challenge the RNLI’s decision.

A public meeting will now be held at Tabernacle Chapel, Glanmor Terrace on Saturday, May 12 at 2pm.

A spokesman for Ceredigion Lifeboat Campaign said: “Please join us in a public meeting to demonstrate the strength of feeling that the RNLI’s decision has provoked in the area.

“Speakers include Ben Lake MP and Elin Jones AM and there will also be video input, presentations, music and song.

“As well as being a generously spirited voice of protest and an illustration of the strength of feeling locally, it will be a celebration of the contribution made by present and past crews; those who have helped to build the reputation of the RNLI.

“This is an opportunity to learn more about the campaign and to show your support.”

A petition calling on the RNLI to reverse their decision has so far attracted more than 15,000 signatures. To find out more about the campaign to save New Quay’s all-weather lifeboat, visit www.ceredigionlifeboatcampaign.org.uk
