A GROUP of 18 cyclists from Newcastle Emlyn and further afield will cycle 600 miles around Wales in a challenge that doesn’t appear to have been completed before.

The event, being planned for August, will raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity and Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales.

The cyclists will cycle 600 miles in seven days around the outskirts of Wales and will sleep in fire stations along the route.

“We will start from and finish at the fire station in Newcastle Emlyn. It’s going to be a great event with 18 cyclists including family, friends, colleagues and total strangers from as far away as England taking part,” said cycle organiser Dylan Walters.

“But even though it will be a great event, it will also be a very challenging one with nearly 35,000 feet of climbing over the seven days. It’s by far the biggest challenge I have ever attempted to do,”

Dylan is a familiar face in the fundraising world. He was recently awarded the Wales Volunteer of the Year Award, and along with his wife Mandy, was given the title of Bobath Cymru Ambassador.

To date, he has raised more than £30,000 for charity and hopes that people will support him in this challenge too.

“I’m hoping we can raise more than £10,000 this time and we will also will be organising a fundraising dinner in Carmarthen,” added Dylan.
