A NEWCASTLE Emlyn business is calling on local artists in and around the area to showcase their work.

But Steph Hixon-Hand, the proprietor of Winnie’s No.11 on the high street, fancies a change from the array of attractive paintings that she already has on display and is appealing for new artists who specialise in small metallic-themed work to come forward.

The cafe, which opened last year, has become a haven for artists and art lovers alike and the paintings and articles by various artists have been very popular.

Steph said: “The last few months have been fantastic for our current artists and quite a few pieces of wonderful artwork have found their forever homes including original paintings, prints, cards and slate work.

“One lady purchased three original paintings from Aberaeron’s Robert Mee, with Newcastle Emlyn's Julia Den Hartog selling more than one of her wonderful prints.

“Our local Jez Waller and daughter Josie Iza-Monkey have sold slate work and cards and other wonder bits have been purchased proving that Newcastle Emlyn is indeed a haven for artists.”

With spring around the corner, Steph would like to offer her cafe as a venue for artists to display not only their paintings, but also small metal work and exhibits not usually found locally which will attract families.

“We would really like to see paintings that include coppers and metallic themes such as bronze and silver, sculptures and small metal work - we are open to ideas including the tones of silver, copper and bronze as this is a complete change to the current art displayed at Winnie's,” said Steph, who has the main downstairs restaurant and the upper restaurant including staircase and hallway available for displaying the work.

Her husband Wayne added: “It's great to display the work of our local artists. The cafe gives them a space where the public can see the amazing talent we have in our community - original artwork that generally isn't available in shops.”

“We are so excited to see what you all come forward with and we will be holding an exhibition weekend with cocktails and canapés during February once we have finalised all the artists,” added Steph.
