AN extra disabled parking space is set to be created in Cardigan town centre.
The new bay will be outside the Tabernacle Chapel, in Pendre, where there are currently two existing disabled parking spaces, along with a loading bay and limited waiting bay.
Highway chiefs are now looking to make a further disabled bay, Cllr Catrin Miles told members of the town council.
Cllr Sian Maehrlein raised the question of whether drop kerbs could also be introduced to help wheelchair users.
“If someone is in a wheelchair, it is very difficult to get them in and out of a car and drop kerbs would be extremely helpful. Unless you have had to do it or rely on a wheelchair, I don’t think people realise just how difficult it can be,” she said.
Cllr Yvonne O’Neill welcomed the addition of an extra disabled parking bay as she said many people were now struggling to get up the hill from the bottom car parks in town onto the high street following the closure of the lift.
Councillors were also told that highway chiefs were also looking at putting double yellow lines down the hill from Pendre to Theatr Mwldan as drivers were parking there and it was proving dangerous.
