A CARDIGAN community midwife is planning to tackle the 60-mile Ceredigion Coastal Path in just 24 hours to raise money for Marie Curie.

Mum of three Claire Tregear, from Llandysul, will take on the daunting task on her own on Wednesday, June 21, leaving Cardigan at sunrise and heading to the finish line at Ynys Las.

It is the first part of a double-headed challenge for Claire, who along with two colleagues will then be trekking the Himalayas in October for the same charity.

“I am doing this in memory of a colleague who died,” said 34-year-old Claire.

“Also, I used to be a nurse and cared for terminally ill patients and the work Marie Curie does is so important and needs out support.

“Every penny will ensure the Marie Curie team can continue supporting and providing excellent care to those with all terminal illnesses in their own home or in a hospice, as well as supporting their families”

She has certainly been putting in the hard yards in training, recently completing three triathlons in a month, while also completing 29 miles of the Coastal Path in 10 hours on a trial run.

“I have walked all of the path in sections so I have some idea what to expect,” said Claire. “I am looking to raise £3,500 and all the money will go to the local community in the Cardigan and Llandysul areas.”

Claire has set up a Justgiving page and anyone wishing to sponsor her can go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/claire-tregear
