A FORMER boxer and his wife who attended Cardigan Secondary School, are to take over the town’s Eagle Inn which has been closed for the best part of a year.

Shayne and Carman Yates have lived in the Cardiff area for the past five years but say they are eagerly looking forward to re-establishing their roots in Cardigan.

Shayne, 39, has spent the past 12 years as head of business to government services with enterprise agency Antur Teifi, working across west Wales supporting local businesses to establish or grow.

Before moving to south Wales when Carman went to university, Shayne helped run Cardigan Amateur Boxing Club gymnasium and was at one stage a useful boxer.

Carman has more than ten years of experience in Asian cuisine and the couple plan to reopen the Eagle as a modern Asian Fusion restaurant and bar.

Carman will run the business during the day while Shayne continues with his nine-to-five, but will have input during evenings and weekends.

Looking forward to a new challenge Shayne said: “We have completed the purchase of the Eagle and plan to open for business towards the end of May.

“We are both from the town and are looking forward to renewing friendships and running a business.”

Welcoming the re-opening of the riverside hostelry Cardigan Traders chairman Martyn Radley said: “It is indeed very good news and we wish Shayne and Carman the best of luck with their new venture.”
