A pioneering north Pembrokeshire eco village is seeking financial support to make the site more accessible to overnight visitors.

Lammas, near Glandwr, is currently home to eight families who live sustainably on low-impact small holdings.

The village attracts hundreds of visitors each year and also hosts dozens of volunteers, all wanting to experience the Lammas lifestyle.

However, there are currently no places to stay in the village other than in a tent.

One Lammas family, the Lishmans, have found a solution to this; they want to build an eco-pod that visitors to Lammas could book online.

They have developed the design after constructing a similar structure for their oldest son, Ted.

"We have been told many times that people would really love to stay in an eco-building here," said Cassie Lishman. "So we'd love to create some visitor's spaces and offer it out for everyone to enjoy.

"Once built, the eco-pod will offer a total low impact experience in a small but beautiful self-contained unit, completely off grid. The pod will be built using local slate, straw bales, lime plaster and local wood.

"It will have solar electricity, and a wood burner to keep you warm. It will use passive solar gain to bring in the sun's warmth to heat to cob floor."

The pod will sleep up to two adults and two children and will cost £5,000 to build. Cassie has set up a crowd funding page to help get the project off the ground.

Funders will get varying rewards for their donations ranging from thank you cards, willow sculptures, a chance to join in with the pod building project, a willow sculpture workshop or a weekend stay in the eco pod.

The crowd funding appeal closes at 5pm on Monday, January 30. For more information visit http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/lammas-eco-pods or search Lamas Eco Pods on Facebook.
