Firefighter from Cardigan took part in a 12.5 mile walk to help raise money for toddler diagnosed with Cancer.

On Saturday, November 12, crews from Cardigan Fire and Rescue Station took part in the sponsored walk from Newport to Cardigan.

Firefighters tackled the 12.5 mile walk, wearing full fire kit, to raise money for two-year-old Eliza Donnelly who was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer at the beginning of the summer.

The event proved to be a huge success thanks to the very generous donations and sponsorship from the community.

The money raised will help Eliza and her family travel to Germany for specialised immune building treatment not available in the UK.

Watch Manager John Mitchell said: “Taking part in a sponsored walk is not something that the watch normally undertakes, but due to the close link between Eliza’s parents and the crew, we are very keen to do something to help raise money towards the treatment needed.”

The total figure raised will be established shortly, enabling the Watch to present a check to Eliza's family as soon as possible.”

Ceredigion Community Safety Watch Manager, Nicola Thomas said: “Thank you to everyone who supported the Sponsored Walk.

We had a welcome break along the route at the Eglwyswrw Coffee Morning, which was also in aid of Eliza, where the crews were provided with tea and cake to help sustain them on their journey. The families at the coffee morning received a surprise visit from Fireman Sam. The encouragement and generosity shown by drivers and pedestrians that donated along the way was amazing."
