A WELSH Shire Horse has just won the Kilmannan Stud British Ridden Heavy Horse of the Year. Seven year old Shire horse Catwg Black Velvet is owned by John Fletcher of Cardigan and was ridden by daughter Stacy. John is an ex dairy farmer who has diversified into Shire Horses for use in their company Gentle Giants Shire Horses. Catwg Black Velvet competed against the top ridden Heavy Horses from across the UK and came out on top. The final was held at Equifest in Peterborough in August.
