Over the May half term four young people currently living at a young person’s project in Cardigan were given the opportunity to take part in a project ran by the Care Society.

The project - Every journey begins with a single step - was set up by Rachel Lewis and Charlie Roberts following a successful bid from the North & Mid Wales Reaching Wider Programme.

Their aim is to widen participation and access to higher education, supporting social inclusion and up skilling.

Residents of the YPP were given the opportunity to spend a day at Coleg Ceredigion’s woodwork department making vegetable boxes for their garden.

As part of the support provided at the project residents will now be able to learn to grow their own food.

The group were also given an opportunity to take part in an art project where an artist came to the project for a day and turned their garden into an outside space where all can enjoy and socialise.

The Care Society would like to thank Danny Lewis of Coleg Ceredigion, Cardi Builders and Jewsons for their kind donations and support during the project.

An extended thanks to Mel and Claire of Cornerwood who have been growing fruit and vegetables for over three years and have kindly donated all the fruit and vegetable from their garden.

Their garden now provides them with 40% of their food and they are now in the position to share their excess plants.
