THE CHAPS (Coloured Horse and Pony Society) Mid Welsh Regional Show was held at the Royal Welsh Spring Festival in May and saw the coloured stallion - Master Guitar Man, owned by Barry Thomas and Rhian Jones of Crymych, and ridden by Rhian galloping to take supreme ridden champion.

With big classes and huge support, the supreme championship, sponsored by Cardigan based Equine Wales, saw Tiger Tim of Somerset owned by Denise Kersely in reserve with nine year old Soffia Cynwyl of Beulah near Newcastle Emlyn in second reserve spot.

"Ten year old Master Guitar Man is a 14.1hh gypsy cob stallion. We’ve no idea how he is bred but I bought him as a scruffy unhandled five year old from a field near Aberaeron and he is the best purchase yet," explained Rhian who said that his wonderful gallop ensured the supreme title.

"We are completely gobsmacked, flabbergasted ... amazed as Tiger Tim who was reserve to us has won the last three regional shows! We might enter a few HOYS classes now as he’s done so well. We’ll also compete at the Royal Welsh Show."

Barry added: "We are chuffed and over the moon! The months of hard work we’ve put in has paid off and we are now reaping the rewards!"

Soffia rode her four year old tri coloured mare, Coppice Bryony Rose, aka Mabli to win the lead rein / first ridden class, and was reserve section champion and second reserve supreme, expertly led by Ian Lamb.

"It was a great day and the pony behaved impeccably. It was a big show for the mare who was competing at her second ever show outdoors and we couldn’t have asked for more of the four year old who took everything in her stride in such a big ring," said a delighted Ian.

Claire Edwards of the Maesygollen stud, Star, rode her mare Waltzing Matilda to second place out of 13 in her first Open class of the season and the Muir family of Talgarreg had a good outing with the gelding Little Crow ridden by Mary Muir coming third in the Riding Club Horse and a sixth in the Large Novice Ridden. Their mare, Just Molly was fourth in the Traditional, Cob and Native Colour Working Hunter and third in the Novice Ridden under 14.2hh ridden by daughter Jess.
