A MAN has died after a crash involving a refuse lorry on the B4574 near Devil's Bridge, Ceredigion, yesterday.

Police, ambulance and the fire brigade were called to the scene on Saturday. It is not thought any other vehicles were involved.

A spokesman said: "Sadly, a 42-year-old man has died at scene and another man is in a serious condition and has been conveyed to Morriston Hospital by Air Ambulance."

Police received a report of the incident involving a refuse lorry at 10.50am. The road was closed while a thorough investigation of the scene was carried out to establish the cause of the collision, and to clear the damaged vehicle.

The crash happened on the B4574 between Devil's Bridge and Cwmystwyth.

UPDATE (Sunday afternoon): The man who died in a refuse truck crash near Devil’s Bridge yesterday has been named as 42-year-old Stephen Joseph Cuddy.

In a statement released through police, Mr Cuddy's family have paid tribute to him: “Stephen was a lovely, honest, caring son, brother and uncle who will be sorely missed. He moved from Liverpool to Aberystwyth as a mature student to study politics and philosophy and never went back home again because he loved Aberystwyth so much. He applied to be a HGV driver with Aberystwyth Council and remained in the town. Stephen was a keen motorcyclist who loved the countryside and he loved Wales.”

A 64-year-old man involved in the collision was taken to Morriston Hospital by Air Ambulance where he remains, but his condition is not life threatening.

Police received a report of the incident at 10.50am on Saturday, April 4.

The road remained closed until 5.45pm. A thorough investigation of the scene was carried out to establish the cause of the collision.
