An important wildlife Visitor Centre on the Teifi marshes opened its doors to local MP Stephen Crabb on Thursday .

Mr Crabb met with The Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales Chief Executive, Sarah Kessell, and staff at the Visitor Centre in Cilgerran to hear more about the work they are doing to encourage people to visit and learn more about the wildlife at their unique nature reserve.

The MP heard about the facilities on offer at the centre and saw first-hand the award winning glasshouse café and gift shop. The Chief Executive talked through the many ways that visitors can enjoy the nature reserve which is gearing up for the season.

This unique attraction in north Pembrokeshire has a range of experiences on site and offers on-site accommodation, cycle hire and trails, walking trails and guided tours. It has a busy diary of practical nature-orientated events for children from pond dipping to learning how to build bird boxes.

They have recently added a willow maze and an Osprey viewing platform for visitors which are new this season. The reserve’s popular Water Buffalo will be back on site around Easter time.

Stephen Crabb said: “There is a need to harness the full potential of North Pembrokeshire's unique environment and natural heritage to benefit the local economy. The Wildlife Centre shows how it can be done with close links to local tourism like Fforest. The Nature Reserve and Visitor Centre here in Cilgerran is an important attraction for the area and it is wonderful to see it being enjoyed all year round by both visitors and local residents.”

"The centre has excellent facilities on offer in what is a really unique part of Pembrokeshire. The staff do a great job in bringing wildlife to life by making the reserve accessible to all."
